Raffi’s (5/5) There isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been shouted from the rooftops about Raffi’s Persian-Armenian cuisine. Just know that alongside Korean BBQ and a day spent in the San Gabriel Valley, Raffi’s makes my list of restaurants specifically reserved for cheat days and fat pants.
Though I’m typically not a meat eater, I literally transform into a cow’s worst nightmare–a meat-eating machine with canines at the ready when I tear into Raffi’s Soltani Kabab. The Soltani, also known as the #1, is the most popular dish served and consists of a skewer of sizzling filet mignon shish kebab and a beef koobideh.
Raffi’s is an exclusive meat and rice mecca. It’s so simple and yet, so perfect. I honestly believe that it takes greater skill to execute something basic so perfectly. Meat + rice awakens the animal in me and makes me want to devour ever square inch of that foot long koobideh. Sometimes, I ask for medium rare/charred and they oblige by bringing out a delectably moist, juicy, yet crispy treat.
Of every restaurant I’ve ever eaten at, this is the one and only that has never failed to impress every single time. Can’t stress this enough. It’s truly amazing to have this level of quality with something as unpredictable as fire and meat.
Though the setting can be romantic with those hanging lights and an exclusively outdoor dining room, it’s hard to get in the mood when you’re scarfing down a Yorkie’s weight in meat. Plates are huge and big enough to share–but I assure you, you won’t want too.
